Expeller Pressed Coconut Oil

Expeller Pressed Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is one of the healthiest sources of fat you can add to your diet. Yes, it is a saturated fat, but it is much healthier than the saturated fats found in meat and high-fat dairy products. It is also healthier than the hydrogenated vegetable oils used in commercial baked goods. What makes coconut oil different is the fact that it is composed of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). Unlike the long chain triglycerides found in meat and most vegetable oils, which are typically stored as body fat, MCTs are rapidly burned for energy.

Because the MCTs in coconut oil boost metabolism and promote a feeling of fullness, coconut oil may be a helpful addition to a weight loss program, especially if it replaces other types of fat in the diet. And because MCTs are easily digested, coconut oil is a good nutritional choice for those with digestive disorders such as Crohn's disease and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Besides being nature's most abundant source of MCTs, coconut oil is also rich in an immune-boosting fatty acid called lauric acid, which is found in mother's milk and is a proven antiviral and antibacterial agent.

Tropical Traditions' virgin coconut oil is a premium coconut oil that has not been refined, bleached or deodorized. Made in the Philippines, coconut oil is a great substitute for other oils and can be used in cooking and baking as well as used topically. It also has natural antibacterial, anti-microbial, and anti--fungal properties and can be used on the yeast free eating program.

This coconut oil is highly stable and its usage is preferred over that of extra virgin olive oil because it does not go rancid, nor does it turn into trans fatty acids at high heat. the coconut oil is in a solid state up to 76 degrees. Above that it will turn into a liquid form, but easily goes back to a solid state without damaging the product. Do not, however, refrigerate the coconut oil as it will expand and can potentially break the glass container.

Expeller-Pressed coconut oil is also available. It is nutritionally the same but is unflavored. Physician's Preference highly recommends both types of coconut oil. The Expeller-Pressed (non flavored) is very versatile when used for cooking or for those who do not like the coconut flavor. If you are eating the coconut oil by the spoonful we recommend using the flavored version as it is more palatable. The regular coconut oil with the coconut taste is wonderful when cooking meats and vegetables since it ads a hint of sweetness to the dish. The flavored coconut oil is a great addition to PaleoMeal smoothies and in the yeast-free peanut butter balls.
