Tips From The Nutritionist: Buying Organic
Posted by Kristin Scott, CNC on 3/5/2012
When it comes to nutrition, its important to buy high quality, organic foods; not only to make sure you're getting all the vitamins and minerals you need, but also to make sure you're not ingesting harmful chemicals such as pesticides and other chemicals.
A good rule of thumb: the thinner the skin, the more likely chemicals have soaked into that food.
While organic foods can be pricey, below are the top 10 foods I recommend that you purchase:
1. Apples 2. Celery
3. Strawberries
4. Peaches
5. Leafy greens (spinach, kale, lettuce)
6. Grapes
7. Bell peppers
8. Blueberries
9. Meats (No hormones or antibiotics)
10. Coffee
Happy Nutrition Month!

Thank you for this list - it will be very helpful.
I wanted to add that the Anti Cancer book also suggested that potatoes absorb so many pesticides and should be bought organic. Do you have any information confirming this also?

I always purchase organic potatoes and corn as these items are genetically modified foods when conventionally grown. I don't enjoy soy in any form but it is typicallly also a gmo.
Those items I buy that are conventionally grown I soak in a solution of 1 TBS of ordinary table salt and cold water for 10 min or so as it dissolves pesticides and herbacides I learned this from a vegetarian Doctor.
