Quick Fitness Tips
Posted by Physician's Preference on 5/1/2012 to Health & Fitness
Did you know May is National Fitness Month?

Why not kick it off with a few quick and simple exercise tips?!

Remember: the key to optimal health and wellness not only consists of diet and exercise but a high quality vitamin regimen, as well!

  1. Workout with a friend. You shop with your friends, you go to lunch with your friends, you do everything with friends! Why not do something that's equally rewarding and exercise with a friend? Friends are sometimes used as good "coaches" and will push you further than you are willing to push yourself!
  2. Don't skip meals. Skipping meals slows down your metabolism and you won't burn calories like you're supposed to. At this point, your body thinks it's being starved so the next time you eat, your body stores more than usual resulting in more fat. If you need to, try snacking on fruits, nuts or raw veggies to tide you over!
  3. Remember that you need strength training too (not just cardio), to lose weight and get fit. Lifting weights will not only tone your muscles but it will make them more lean. If you don't want to bulk up, use lighter weights and do more reps!
  4. Eat an orange before you workout. Because of the nutrients in an orange, you will experience less muscle soreness and you will stay hydrated longer. Kill two birds with one stone: get in a pre-workout snack and prevent soreness!
  5. Crunch time. To relieve neck tension while doing crunches, press your tongue to the roof of your mouth when you come up. Who would have thought?!
